15 Life Changing Albums

Following the lead of Quillen and Travis I will try to make a list.

"Think of 15 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world. When you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill. Get the idea now? Good. Tag, you're it!"

In no particular order:

The Enkindels - Buzzclip 2000 (1998)
Every one of their albums was different, but this one did it. The perfect summer soundtrack for dudes being dudes.

The Get Up Kids - Four Minute Mile (97-98)
The first album I bought through the Legendary Initial Records catalog. They never came close to being this good again.

Saves The Day - Through Being Cool (1999?)
"Im a nerdy kid, i love you, fuck you"

Alkaline Trio - Goddammit (98-99)
"Im a drunk kid, i love you, fuck you"

Kid Brother Collective - S/T
Probably the reason why I developed the musical taste I did. So many awesome times tied to album and fun.

Less Than Jake - Losing Streak (97-ish)
First heard this at the listening station at the mall in one of the big record stores. Kent and I jammed out to this all summer long and it opened doors to more and more ska!

Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves (95-96)
The first "punk" album I ever owned. So good I had to buy it twice after Brian Krapohl stole it (along with seven mary three, tripping daisy and oasis) after I left it at Joe Funsch's birthday party.

Lifetime - Jersey's Best Dancers (99-ish)
After hearing this you could easily see the influences these guys had on other bands on this list i.e. Saves The Day, The Enkindels. "Young Loud and Scotty" may still be my favorite song E-V-E-R.

Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing ta F' Wit

Suicide Machines - Destruction By Definition (96-97)
Kent's Sisiter and Brother In Law took us to this show in Detroit around Christmas. My first St Andrews experience, also my first encounter with The Enkindels and The Gutter Punx. This show was so much fun, Kent crapped at St Andrews because of the onion rings he ate before.

Small Brown Bike - No Place Like You 7"
Opened my eyes "gruff melody." Got me into bands like HWM, Avail and the like. I still this 7" their best.

The Rentals - Return Of The Rentals
Better than most =w= releases.

The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good(98ish)
About the time I fell deep into the jangly midwestern emo stuff. If it had a little house next to it in the Initial Catalog I wanted to hear it.

Phish - Hoist (96ish)
Hard to believe that at the same time I was getting into 'punk' I was in love with Phish. As my attention span shortened, my love for Phish faded. I still rock it from time to time. They were the first band that I was really into, when I was like 14 I wanted a Phish tattoo!

Boy Sets Fire - The Day The Sun Went Out
Introduced me to heavier music, this album is still great, another initial records release.

This list will never be complete and if i wrote it ten times, it would probably be a little different every time.

Principals Office

This show is great.

On a side note, I finally watched Pineapple Express this weekend. I laughed out loud, a lot, and Shauna fell asleep. I thought it was extremely funny and smart. Maybe it's an indicator of my maturity level.

And I leave you with this video:

P.S.

This video is awesome for several reasons.

Also, this is the new shirt I'll be doing for The Faithless, sooner or later, it's already later:

Check it out here.

An interesting concept. I'm curious to see if it takes off. Does anyone know if anything similar has been attempted before? I'm naturally a skeptic, and I'm hesitant to start throwing "shares" at bands without anything tangible guaranteed to come my way.
